APPLEBY, TX (KTRE) -
Yet another earthquake shook Timpson earlier this week. Even though most people in that area may not have felt it, it was the third earthquake to occur since Monday evening.
The 2.4 magnitude earthquake rattled the city at 3 a.m. this morning, and one resident said she knew this earthquake was going to occur and has predicted a handful of others.
Angela Bradford, the owner of Appleby Sand Mercantile Café, has lived in Timpson for five years.
For the past year, she has felt each earthquake that has been reported by the U.S. Geological Survey.
"Well, it's been interesting because I'm from East Texas, and if you would have told me at any point in time that we would have earthquakes, I would have said, ‘Oh no that's for California not for East Texas."
Bradford has been able to guess when the next earthquake may occur by simply looking at Lake Timpson.
"I noticed that we had waves, but I never noticed any boats or the wind wasn't blowing," Bradford said.
Last Saturday, she noticed smooth rolling waves and told her friends that an earthquake was coming.
"Everybody was like, ‘Yeah, OK, Angela, and then on Monday afternoon we had the earthquakes,'" Bradford said.
A 4.1 earthquake shook the town and two hours later a 4.3 magnitude was reported.
When asked if she now finds herself watching the water, Bradford said, "All the time. I went home yesterday and sat down on the back porch to watch the waves."
And at 3 a.m. Friday morning, the USGS confirmed a 2.4 earthquake to hit Timpson.
Bradford said it is still unbelievable to watch the rolling waves and feel an earthquake a couple days later.
"I think even after you've felt them, it's hard to believe that this happens, but we have them," Bradford said. "I still believe that they're coming from salt water activities that are going on."
East Texas News spoke to Dr. Wesley Brown, a geology professor at Stephen F. Austin State University. He said there have been no specific links between the East Texas earthquakes and lake waves.
Brown said this isn't the first time he's heard about Bradford's earthquake predictions. Bradford told East Texas news that there is a seismograph in her yard that has reported dozens of earthquakes since last year.
