The increasingly frequent attacks on religious minorities by terrorist groups is an alarming trend in many places around the world. The protection of minorities against violence and the promotion of their human rights and fundamental freedoms should be at the heart of the international community’s action during conflict as well as post-conflict reconstruction and reconciliation, recognizing that religious diversity, tolerance and mutual understanding are key to sustainable peace and stability.
The event aims to raise awareness on the serious challenges faced by religious minorities during and after conflict, and will call on the international community to strengthen cooperation in this regard. High-level participants of the event will discuss relevant national and international initiatives, share best practices and experience on effective action, in dialogue with all relevant stakeholders.

Seminar on Promoting Economic Empowerment of Women in ASEAN. As part of Developing Regional Catalysts on Women’s Economic Empowerment between ASEAN and UN Women.
Collaboration between ASEAN Member States, the ASEAN Secretariat (ASEC) and the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) would become a useful platform in generating discussion about greater economic empowerment of women in various aspects including tapping into high-skill sectors and the private sectors. The involvement of successful women entrepreneurs in ASEAN could also be role models/figures to share their best practices to further empower women and girls everywhere.

01:15 PM - 02:30 PM        (TCC) Childhood Obesity – A Development Time-bomb: Learning from SIDS to accelerate multi-sectoral action in support of the 2025 NCDs targets and the SDGs.
The Caribbean and Pacific small island developing States (SIDS) are sub-regions of the world with particularly high burdens of obesity and non-communicable diseases (NCDs), which threaten the achievement of sustainable development in these already vulnerable countries. Obesity is a disease in its own right, but it is also a major risk factor for many of the NCDs, and there is growing concern, specifically, about the alarming rate at which childhood obesity is increasing. Caribbean and Pacific SIDS have been focusing on this issue at the highest level. This Side Event will provide an opportunity to share the experiences of these regions, and others, in providing an enabling and less obesogenic environment for their people, especially the children.
Co-organized by the Permanent Missions of Barbados and Canada, the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), the Pacific Small Island Developing States (PSIDS), the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Healthy Caribbean Coalition.
