Heads of State and Government will be gathering at the UN Headquarters in New York for the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly which opens on 12th September. The theme of the general debate this year is “Focusing on people: striving for peace and a decent life for all on a sustainable planet”.

11:00 AM - 12:30 PM        (CR.5) High-Level Event on Development System Reform.
This high-level event, co-hosted by the UK, Nigerian and Mexican Governments, will bring together a cross-regional group of Member States to discuss the recommendations of the Secretary General’s June 2017 report: Repositioning the UN development system to deliver on the 2030 Agenda – Ensuring a Better Future for All. In the report, the Secretary General reviews the functions and capacities of the UN Development System and sets out his vision for how the system must adapt to support countries to deliver Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development.

The side event will highlight the innovativeness and replicability of various country-led initiatives that seek to advance the role of women in the economy.
