Panel convened by the Working Group on the use of mercenaries.
The Working Group has a mandate from the Human Rights Council (Resolution 30/6) to continue to monitor mercenaries and mercenary-related activities in all their forms and manifestations, as well as private military and security companies, in different parts of the world.  They are requested since 2005 to monitor and study the effects on the enjoyment of human rights, particularly the right of peoples to self-determination, of the activities of private companies offering military assistance, consultancy and security services on the international market (HRC Res 2005/2).

The event will focus on the importance of the prioritization and sequencing of national actions for achieving sustainable development and discuss how development cooperation frameworks could be reshaped in accordance with the development needs and priorities of beneficiary countries.
