03:00 PM - 05:00 PM        (TCC) WFUNA Election Debates for candidate countries competing for a 2017-2018 non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.
Asia–Pacific Group Security Council Election Debate.
Debates for candidate countries competing for election to the Security Council have never been held before in UN history. While the process is usually more open than the process to elect a new Secretary General, candidates still have never presented the positions they will pursue in an open debate. The UN community will greatly benefit from a more transparent process to better hold Member States to account on their commitments. As a global civil society network of 100 nationally based United Nations Associations, WFUNA is perfectly placed to lead a fair, balanced procedure for each candidate country.
Organized by the World Federation of United Nations Association (WFUNA).
