11:30 AM - 01:00 PM        (CR.3) Code of Conduct regarding Security Council action against genocide, crimes against humanity or war crimes as elaborated by the ACT (Accountability, Coherence, Transparency) Group.
The world expects the Security Council to take effective action to prevent or end genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes – the worst crimes under international law. Recent history has shown, however, that the Council is all too often unable to live up to these expectations. Member States of ACT have therefore elaborated a Code of Conduct wherein current and potential future members of the Security Council pledge to support action against genocide, crimes against humanity or war crimes. They also commit not to vote against credible draft SC resolutions that are aimed at preventing these crimes. The purpose of this event is to introduce and discuss this Code of Conduct, which Member States have been invited to formally support.
