Tobacco not only impacts health, but it affects all areas of sustainable development, including economic, social, and environmental. It is the number one risk factor for non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Tobacco control and NCDs must be included in the post-2015 development agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals, as they were left out in the past MDGs. The Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC), the world’s first public health treaty, serves as the perfect guide for countries to follow to reduce the global burden of tobacco related NCDs. The FCTC serves as a blueprint for how countries can achieve a healthier population. At this event, a few countries will share experiences and progress made related to NCDs and FCTC implementation through brief presentations. In addition, FCTC basics and strategies for implementation will be discussed.
