A Side-Event Organized by the High-Level Task Force for ICPD and co-hosted by the Governments of Denmark and Uruguay, the main objective will be promoting key priorities for fulfilling the human rights of women and girls and gender equality in the context of the Post-2015 Development Agenda, ICPD and Beijing ‘plus 20’ review processes, in line with Task Force policy positions. Under the rubric of this year’s CSW on “Challenges and achievements in the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals for women and girls”, the discussions will build on the lessons learned of the MDGs and the need for a more robust, holistic treatment of gender inequalities and discrimination across the range of social, economic, civil and political rights. The event’s forward-looking lens will be on advancing fundamental human rights and freedoms of women and girls, including sexual and reproductive health and rights and freedom from violence and harmful practices, and the linkages of these key issues to poverty eradication and sustainable development.
